The 6 Biggest Beauty Trends From Milan Fashion Week.

In all manners of glamour, Italian designers aren’t afraid to push the envelope. Season after season, this extends to the beauty at Milano fashion week.

On the more extreme end of things, Gucci invited showgoers on a romp through the backstage as makeup artist Thomas De Kluyver trickled inky mascara tears down models’ cheeks to hauntingly beautiful effect. A deluge of shimmer and saturated color came by way of Marni, where multidisciplinary hair artist Julien d’Ys saturated both faces and lacquered lengths in metallic glitter and gestural strokes of paint. Technicolor hair also found its way into the Moschino show, where a parade of candy-colored poufs came down the runway in the style of Marie Antoinette, while at Pucci, Jawara spray-painted electric prints on back-grazing manes.

On the other side of the equation, there was fiercely raw beauty, from the seemingly bare, yet luminous complexions at Salvatore Ferragamo and Bottega Veneta to the blunt, pin-straight lengths at Prada and Missoni.

Here, the six biggest beauty takeaways from this week’s shows in the Italian fashion capital.
